Timeline of GlobalSantaFe Corp.

Sept. 3, 2001 - Global Marine and Santa Fe Int’l announce merger with new company to be called GlobalSantaFe.

Sept. 4, 2001 - Park registered domain name globalsantafe.com with Hangang, Korean registrar.

October 5, 2001 - Global Marine and Santa Fe filed ACPA action in Federal District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia against the domain name and served notice by mail and publication.

November 15, 2001 - GlobalSantaFe applied for fed’l trademark.

December 20, 2001 - Korean registrar deposited registration certificate for globalsantafe.com domain name with federal court in Virginia.  Park failed to appear. 

April 1, 2002 -
After Park defaulted, the federal court ordered Korean registrar and VeriSign Global Registry Service to transfer the domain name to plaintiff.

April 9, 2002 - Park sought injunction in court in Korea to prohibit Korean registrar from transferring the domain name.

September 17, 2002 - Korean court provisionally granted the injunction based on lack of jurisdiction of American court.  Korean registry is now refusing to transfer domain name as required by federal court in Virginia.

Plaintiff now seeks amended judgment asking VeriSign to cancel the infringing domain name until it is transferred to GlobalSanteFe.
